Description:

WHAT IF ROBYN WILLIAMS RAPED A RHINOCEROS?

While filming one of his many high budget Hollywood blockbusters, comedian Robyn Williams vented his frustration by raping a female rhinoceros co-star. Fearing public disgrace, Robyn murdered the rhino…but not before the birth of his bastard child: Rhinoboy, the Unholy Halfbreed. Now, the Rhinoboy hunts his estranged father to exact vengeance for the murder of his mother. It’s a tale of one rhino’s quest for revenge and the resulting downfall of one of America’s most beloved cultural icons. Unholy Halfbreed broke the mold when first published by Marc Graci in April 2002. It’s dark, edgy humor and graphic violence set the comic industry on its ear. In addition to the scintillating story, Graci masterfully satirizes popular modes of thought, addressing homosexual stereotypes, the “revolving door” of America’s justice system, and even the comic book medium itself.
Face it: you’d have to be really dumb not to buy this.

Remember David Lynch's "Mulholland Drive?" Remember the Beatle's "The White Album?" Or Mark Twain's "Huck Finn?"

Just as the above masterpieces created an artistic rejuvenation in their respective fields, "Le Agonie D' Rhino" shows us all what comic books could and should be. Marc Graci paints his satirical creative vision in bold strokes, inventing a well rounded and interesting cast of characters:

Rhinoboy, the forgotten son. Robyn Williams, the deadbeat dad. Catrina Guard, the conflicted love interest. Chicken Bear, the.. bear..uh, who shoots chickens out of his back. Well, they can't all be winners.

A series of increasingly bizarre, outlandish events drives the story's plot at a breakneck pace and keeps the book exciting, leading to the final confrontation in issue 8.

The back-up stories are amusing, albeit too short, tales of Rhinoboy and the infamous Lobster Man. Short and sweet, they act as the creamy sorbet that rounds out the meal and cleanses the palate. As for the pin-ups, they serve as a nice break in between features. I'm normally not a fan of pin-ups, but some of the pieces (especially "The Death of Rhinoboy" by Nik Fink) are so heart-rendingly beautiful I can't help but feel touched. I actually had some of them enlarged at a local copy shop and "The Death of Rhinoboy" is now hanging above the desk in my den.

This book is such an incredible value. 150 pages for 10 bucks, and THE WHOLE STORY with no further commitment. Thanks for respecting your readers, Mr. Graci!

"Le Agonie D' Rhino" is like "Roots" for white people.

Marc Graci's Unholy Halfbreed tells a story that most wouldn't have the guts to tell. It's a story that he has continued to support despite setbacks presented by certain, unnamed administrators. Simply put, you cannot contain UH. It's too good. Many people would veer away from the controversy, but Graci revels in it. He is undaunted by those who claim that some parts (especially the basic premise) are unacceptable, and he's 100% right in taking that attitude. I've read plenty of comics over the years, and Unholy Halfbreed stands higher than them. It's because of Marc's writing. You should definitely check out this book. It's a very rare find that you'll regret missing.

I've been a fan of Marc Graci's work ever since I picked up the first issue of Unholy Halfbreed in 2002. I was immediately hooked on the hysterical plot and the brilliant execution of jokes both verbal and visual that can only be done by Marc Graci. This book is a great value. For ten bucks you get the full eight issue series (that's right the whole story...no need to buy any other issues) plus some extra content like pin ups and some non-rhino related stories. I especially enjoyed seeing Marc's talent and style evolve along with the story of Rhinoboy. Marc's talent is making fun of the ordinary and everyday and this book proves it!
Overall, this book is a great read at a great value. If you aren't a fan of Marc Graci you will be after read this book.
A Modern Classic.

I've been a fan of the Unholy Halfbreed comic book series since it first came out, and this graphic novel collection is an excellent value.
The book includes all eight issues of the series, so it offers the complete story and is a good introduction to Marc Graci's work. I've often tried to get involved in reading Marvel comics, but I've always hated the huge cross-over storylines. I would need to buy like a dozen different issues just to know what was going on. That's no problem here; it's all self-contained. As something of an aspiring artist myself, it's really interesting to watch Marc's artistic ability and style evolve through the book's 150 plus pages.
Although the story's a bit dated, it still packs a wicked punch in the irreverent way that South Park or the Family Guy does. I'll never forget the scene where Robin Williams assaults Rhinoboy in the burlesque house.
There are also a few back-up stories (the one with SnowDad is great!) and pin-ups by different artists. It's interesting to see someone else's take on Rhinoboy and adds some variety to the book.
All in all, I think this is a phenomenal book and, at $10.00, blows away any other graphic novel collections on the market in sheer value. This is not quite as amazing as Marc's current works, but it's still a classic.
