When I had read the other reviews of this book, I had a feeling it was going to be a great read. But when I ordered it and actually read it, it far surpassed anything I had expected. The way the author blends captivating fantasy elements with real-world events and issues is absolutely amazing. Definitely a great book that I would recommend to anyone that likes this type of material.

A review from Jan Hulderson:
"Archon" is a dramatic, action packed book, which I very much enjoyed. I don't usually read this type of book, but found it to hold my interest, with enough intrigue to make me want to continue reading.
The transformation of the three human characters to Archon characters was unique, and well done. The "Compendium of Violence" chapters brought everything together. The writing style was descriptive and colorful for the battles and confrontations that took place.
The subjects for the three short stories were well chosen because of the relevance to our lives today. Although we can't solve these problems the way they were solved in the book, it evokes awareness and concern that solutions must be found.
Overall, I felt that the author's vocabulary, descriptive style, and content details were excellent. I look forward to the sequel!

Jacob Laren's unique writing style, use of photomanipulations, and intense short stories brings this epic novel to life. Laren does an excellent job in blending dark fantasy with today's modern world, and "Archon" skillfully breaks the rules of conventional story-telling. You do not simply observe the story from one person's point of view; you experience it through various characters - a 17-year old runaway, a "sick" database engineer, even the Archon King himself, Kaj. The story of "Archon" blurs across several genres and is an enticing read for even those who do not usually venture into the realm of dark fantasy.
"Archon" will leave you questioning: forgiveness or retribution? Which side will you choose?

“Archon” is a great book and a very enjoyable read. The story fascinates with vivid and detailed descriptions of the events – guiding the reader well, as to what is happening, yet leaving enough room for the fantasy of the reader. It is a gripping and unique story, written well and very diversely, which makes it hard to stop before you finish it. Can’t wait to get my hands on the hopefully soon to be finished sequel.
A great read. Far beyond clever.

Jacob Laren's Archon is a tremendous novel that goes far beyond clever in many aspects of writing. Vivid descriptions and catchy metaphors bring the intense, and sometimes graphic scenes much closer than I ever thought they would come. The smooth format of each individual chapter kept me at a nice pace from cover to cover and I have to admit that once I started, it was a pain to put it down. The artwork that pairs up with many of the chapters gave me a fine idea of what the author was suggesting without completely pushing out my imagination. Not many novels of this type come across this well, especially when it is the author's first. 5/5
