Island Avenue describes the atmosphere of the forties and fifties through the eyes of a boy growing up in America, yet the story is more than that. It is an attempt to uncover the process by which we discover who we are in an unfamiliar universe and how we relate to our fellow travelers. The characters are based upon real people and events in my life.
