This text provides both the electrical and mechanical design of several DRSSTC systems capable of producing output arcs up to 7ft in length using only solid state components. Information is presented as electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, parts lists with complete vendor information, PSPICE simulations, experimental test data, test and operational procedures, and over 200 full-color photographs, drawings, and charts. Both First Generation and the more advanced Second Generation DRSSTC systems utilizing primary feedback are documented in complete detail. Finally, a section devoted entirely to the DRSSTC in action features 18 full-page color photographs of the system producing huge high voltage arcs. Keywords:Listed in: |

As a non-engineer, I was concerned that the technical jargon and mathematics might go over my head. I was pleased to find the book written in plain language. The text flows well and is pleasantly readable. I picked up the main points my first time through, and I grasped the details on my second reading. Not bad considering I have zero training or experience on switch mode power circuits.
The book clearly describes how disruptive solid state tesla coils work and explains--both in pictures and text--how to build them. The projects presented are not for beginners, but anyone reasonably skilled in hobby-level electronics, coiling, amateur radio, etc., should find McCauley's plans attainable.
Good job Dan!
The author has extensively researched his topic, and presents it in a easy to understand format. If you don't think you're up for designing the entire thing, he gives plans for his entire DRSSTC-1. Also included in this book are plots of waveforms for almost every component in the DRSSTC system, and he even includes waveforms of potential problems and their causes.
This is the best book I've seen anywhere written on the tesla coil, and the first time I've seen most everything you need to know about a DRSSTC in one place.
By the way, it also comes in black and white. The information will still be there in its entireity, but like the author once said, "It's meant to be a color book." I agree.
Beautiful pictures, loads of information. I must admit I was a bit timid about spending $50-something on a book I'd never even had the chance to look at, but it's definitely worth it, especially if your building your first DRSSTC.
