Teach In Japan [ No Rating ] 5 Feb 2007
If like me, you’ve researched a few books, web sites and even forums about living and working in Japan and found them somewhat lacking in genuine, practical and up to date information, then you’ll be relieved to know that all you’re looking for can be found right here in Jo Ebisujima’s Book ‘Teach In Japan’ . Not only did I find this book able to give me all the info and advice needed for the tricky areas of working VISA’s, finding jobs and accommodation, but also goes into detail about the important issues of work contracts, health insurance and pensions which are often given scant detail or just completely forgotten about – ‘Teach in Japan’ also offers advice and clarification in other areas you may not have considered and may well save you from unnecessary grief or needless expense. The testimonies from teachers already working in Japan I found particularly enlightening. The author has clearly thought out many of the searching questions you’re likely to want to ask - and some of their answers do not pull any punches – so at least you get a realistic feel for the different working environments and conditions before you make up your mind whether Japan is really for you. In a nutshell, this book cuts through all the myths and is written in plain language by someone who’s been there and done it. - If you’re only going to buy one book on working as an English teacher and becoming very street-wise in Japan, then I would strongly recommend you buy this one – it’s a real gem and should on the best seller’s list for sure!

Before reading this book I had little idea of how to go about realising my idea of teaching English as a foreign language in Japan. It is an extremely informative book and answers questions that I hadn't even thought of yet! It tackles a wide range of topics that cover all the issues concerning both teaching and living in Japan. With the aid of this book I have been able to begin my teaching application and make plans for moving to Japan next year.
