Description:

IN 1899, E.W. Barton-Wright devised the martial art of Bartitsu as a process of cross-training between jujitsu, boxing, savate and stick fighting, designed to beat the fearsome street gangsters of Edwardian London at their own game.

The second volume of the Bartitsu Compendium provides resources towards continuing Barton-Wright’s experiments. It combines extensive excerpts from fifteen classic Edwardian-era self defence manuals, including well over four hundred illustrations.

Volume II also offers an extensive collection of long-forgotten newspaper and magazine articles on Bartitsu exhibitions and contests; original articles on Bartitsu history and training; a complete course of Edwardian-era “physical culture” exercises; personality profiles, essays and more besides.

The Bartitsu Compendium, Volume II is a must-have companion piece for the first volume in this series, and offers further fascinating insight into the world of “antagonistics” in Edwardian England.

Another gem from Tony and team. This really is a very comprehensive look at Bartitsu and provides more resources for those interested in the history of martial arts.

As well as this it has a wealth of information on training methods, modern applications and is guaranteed to be of interest to martial artists, historians and anyone who loves Edwardian culture.

Fantastic!

The 2nd compendium starts off where the 1st ended. It presents a unique collection of original and reprinted material that should be in every martial artists library. If you think mixed martial arts and cross-training is a modern phenomenon then this will give you an eye into the past that will leave you wanting more. And will you learn anything from these 'old timers'? Indeed you will....

Great book for the historian and the active martial artist alike, highly recommended!
It really is a compendium!

"The Bartitsu Compendim Volume 1"
was a compendium of Bartitsu history.

"The Bartitsu Compendium Volume 2"
is an outstanding work that provides information for applications that should allow Bartitsu and Neo-Bartitsu to flourish in the future and become something other than "that mysterious martial art practiced by Sherlock Holmes!"

There should be enough here to whet the curiosity and enthusiasm of martial artists around the world and not just us "Bartitsu enthusiasts."
