If you have ever been married, had children, lived in suburbia...oh heck, if you've even taken a single breath of Americana, you're going to find this book a touching revelation about living and growing through relationships, parenting, and life. Don't be misled, it's not a manual or a self-help guide, but appears to me to be a vivid commentary about the joys and frustrations that the author experiences in everyday life.
As with any artistic output, the true test is whether the artist can strike a chord with it's audience. Think of the comedian who finds humor in the mundane and matches that observation with the ability to deliver it effectively. I can unabashedly say that these stories do just that...they pick up on the intracacies of one mother's life and lay them down in manner where we can not only relate, but also (if we let ourselves) apply.
Don't get me wrong, I never got the sense that the author was making commentaries about how we should live our lives (because she certainly has admissions of her own struggles throughout the book), but do expect to close the back cover and feel as though you have been reminded about the path that you need to follow.
Kerry Day has that innate ability that is so elusive to most of us...she can tell us a fascinating, amusing, and emotional story about her life, and in the process, tell us a little something about our own. There is tangible value in what she has to offer us as readers. Enjoy!
