Prior to discovering the dark glory of Andrea Dean Van Scoyoc, I was typically disappointed with the independent press. But this very satisfying collection of fifteen poems changed my mind.

My grandfather, whom I’m named after, has always told me he was once a vampire hunter. I think that’s where my interest in vampires and other creatures of the dark came from. In this collection, I found many poems I could identify with. I could feel the darkness wrapping around me as I read “The Bane of Forever.” I still can’t shake the chilling images evoked by “The Vampire’s Kiss.” I was taken in when I read “His eyes ablaze, his heart of death,” the first line of the seductive poem “Come to Me.” The beautiful “To Live Forever” left me staring into space with its final line, “To walk for all time in damnation ablessed.”

I could continue to go through one by one and list what I loved about every poem, but I will leave you here. I would prefer to answer “The Call of the Night” (another captivating poem) and return to my reading, allowing you to discover this haunting collection on your own.
