Description:

A. J. Desmond's mind-boggling story about a group of colorful characters who finance the construction of a vast underground shelter beneath London to use in the event of a nuclear holocaust.

None of them really expected to use it.

Welsh writer Desmond takes you into their world when the unthinkable happens.

'Big Bang' is difficult to categorize, imaginative in its scope, and hard to put down. Back cover quote: "Prepare to be dragged down Alice's rabbit-hole by the scruff of the neck..." Good advice. Slightly higher price than most AB books is due to length. 286 pages/ 6 x 9 size.

Big Bang is the tale of the obstacles faced by a group of eclectic people thrown together in a mysterious bunker during a time of global crisis. As the tale progresses, the reader and the characters become increasingly unsure about the nature of the bunker and reality itself.
The dialogue is sharp, and uncluttered with needless detail. The characters are flawed and damaged in their own ways but you care about their dilemma. It is Sci-fi / Humour / Surreal satire but more than those three genres. I would definitely recommend.

I cannot praise Ant's lateral thinking enough. The story line is topical in that a bunch of disparate desperates put themselves in a nuclear fallout shelter, not unlike the TV big brother house. Much of the genius in the writing follows from the interactions between them and the chaos theoretical discoveries they make of hidden depths in the shelter.
Aspects of quantum physics are used effectively with respect to simultaneous existing 'worlds' within their new underground world. The characters are Over the top but real enough to be your neighbours - even the crazy Dwarfius.

This is a must read. Written cleverly and with a Douglas Adams humour, I'd recommend it to anyone who feels they ought to know their SF genre.
