This is one of the best books I have ever read! The author creates an extremely believable scenario which could destroy the world (as we know it) by tsunamis, tidal waves and flooding due to a polar ice cap melt ...and before you jump to a political conclusion, guess what? ...THE CAUSE IS NOT GLOBAL WARMING!

You will tremble when you realize that all it takes is one nutcase out there to figure a way to pull this off and we'll all be history!

How one author could have this much knowledge and intelligence is mind-boggling. Read it as soon as possible so you can be ready for the sequel ...and so you won't look like a fool when someone at the water cooler asks, "Can you believe the chilling and world-ending possibility that Dr. Christopher Jones has uncovered in "Fire & Ice"?

This is how I would describe the new novel Fire and Ice by Dr. Christopher Jones. In this novel, Humanity has purchased a ticket on the A-train express; no stops until the end of the line and civilization runs straight into apocalyptic conditions. She’s coming down fast.
From the auspicious prologue concerning the thief of a bakers dozen thermonuclear devices from the USAF arsenal, to the mind-numbing cold of Antarctic, to the sailing paradise of South Pacific waters, with stops in D.C., San Francisco, South America, and underwater, Jones globe-hopes us around the world, drawing us into an ever tightening downward spiral. Helter Skelter.
The character work in Fire and Ice is global in scope with a sense of realism that was refreshing. Not only does it have non-USA characters and settings, but consequences as well. Jones really understands the Earth as a single interconnected living organism and this works well for the story he has to tell. Global in scope, even the weather plays a character role in Fire and Ice. As any historian will tell you, weather plays a significant role in turning the tides of history this way or that and Jones uses weather in this way, which adds an extra dimension of realism to his story. Yes she is.
The great test of Science Fiction is the suspension of disbelief and it’s hook, which drew me in relentlessly. Jones main theme of extreme Vulcanism, and rapid melting of Antarctic ice, and the consequences, were terrifyingly clear, especially when I only had to remember the images of the tragic evens of the southeast asian Tsunami in Dec. of 04 and extrapolate from there. It is chilling to be reminded so forcefully that the geologic powers of planet Earth are sleeping giants, letting us, through their slumber, occupy the Earth. And if we awaken those powers, then it becomes obvious just how truly vulnerable our environmental niche is. Look out!
Fire and Ice is a very solid and enjoyable effort. I wonder if these are the kinds of things which keeps Jones, as a Futurist, awake at night. It certainly gave me a few things to think about which is the goal of any good SF.
