Description:

Set amidst the turbulent times of the late sixties, this beautifully honest novel brings the period to life - from the clothing and music of the day to the controversies and personal choices surrounding the country's involvement in Viet Nam. Virginia McNally must choose the path her life will take - a path that leads to love with one of the two men who pursue her, or the path to her truest love, classical music. And both paths tarry for a while in a little resort town called Greenwood Lake, where Virginia and her friends escape the realities of unhappy lives by overindulging in the proverbial sex, drugs and rock & roll. "Lou Grantt writes of love and loss with humor, wit, and charm. Her characters populate a landscape so rich with details of time and place that the reader is captured by every page. Historical (1960s) fiction, romance, coming of age--this book delivers and satisfies." - Dr. Cyd Ropp, Professor of Speech Communications, College of the Siskiyous.

I found the descriptions of the era pulling me back to that time in my life. I enjoyed the progression of the story and the way the exciting last quarter brought me to current times. It was an easy read with a heart warming ending.
It's terrific! Loved the characters!

Loved it...great story! Definitely well written. Couldn't put it down--kept me wanting to turn the page to see what happened next. Also, was fun to be able to relate to some of it. That was really cool!

Lou Grantt uses her well-developed storytelling skills in a new medium with her first--and hopefully not last--new novel. Transitioning beautifully from screenwriting to prose, Grantt creates characters we care about and places them in the midst of interesting situations. She writes from the heart and the head at the same time, which is no small feat, and keeps us engaged. This is not my usual kind of book to read, but I'm glad I did.
