Though the title of the book is slightly misleading I would still say the title fits the book very well. The social commentary might not be as biting as the cover would lead you believe but if you read this book with an open mind you may see things a little differently by the time you put it down (I did).

T.J. doesn't 'defend evil' as much as attack a lot of ideals that the average person would hold as acceptable. He would simply be called evil by the vast majority because he tackles subjects that we've all been programmed to think is good or sacred. Most would think this simply because we're all told that they're good things, or ideas, as soon as we can start understanding language as children.

The author dives into most of his chosen subjects with a good amount of detail and reflection. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone with an open mind or anyone seeking a little sanity amidst the crap we pass as reason without considering where that 'reason' came from.

The book as a whole was an easy read but it never left my mind cruising on automatic. The author is extremely intelligent and insightful for his age so I'm really looking forward to his works in the future.

Title says it all really, this book is an insult to the trees that died in it's publishing.

Just don't buy it, this guy needs to get a real job or a real education, don't encourage him.

An article of Faith [ No Rating ] 19 Apr 2009
Anxious to see how an athiest could possibly defend 'evil' - which is a theistic belief - is what drew me to this book. There were really no insights, engagements or rational reasoning. What is provided is a series of bitter rants and raves. While not fully ad-homonim attacks, the author is not as much looking to inform or educate this book as he is to 'perach to the choir' of his faithful followers and devoted deciples who already hold the same 'beliefs.'

While light and simple, the writing style is, at times, awkward and clumsy and grammer and syntax sometimes seem non-existent. There were many times I had to go back and re-read sentences and paragraphs to figure out what the author was trying to express.

For those who are looking to find reasons why 'belief' is not such a positive thing would be better served by reading THE END OF FAITH by Sam Harris.

well, I demand a refund!! I was hoping that this book would be somewhat entertaining, but this was the worst written book I have ever read in my life. I found no redeeming qualities in this book and I should have known not to buy a book written by an amature.

People, really now, don't waste your money on this book. I didn't. I borrowed it from a fellow shop owner and he and I both thought it was awful.

Poorly written, blasphemous, and not even funny! This is a guy on YouTube who has the filthiest mouth and blasphemes God every chance he gets.

I noticed that he talks constantly about God yet he claims not to even believe in God! That makes no sense. Why would you talk about something you don't believe in??

Anyway, folks, I would not waste my money on this book! Put it away because Obama's going to raise taxes and ruin our health care system, you'll need every penny you can get!

This book is clumsily written and filled with platitudes and clichés, but the guy who wrote it put some pretty funny videos on YouTube so I'll cut him some slack and suggest that everyone buy this book. Go ahead, do it for the poor fat man.
This book is a Curry [ No Rating ] 20 Jan 2009
I started to watch this guy maybe about 1.5 years ago and must say to all of you out their, go subcribe to him on Youtube, its nice to see someone with an idea not a style on that site for once.

Now the plugings over with lets review this thing. I just finished reading it for a second time allowing ideas to be cleared im my mind before just posting praise for it, and i must say this book is great but does have some faults with it.

I can't say that this books lives up to its sub title, its makes a good go at it but the theme is allways an under current, which is a nice style of doing things, i do feel that the killer blow was never landed. He is very good on attack but does need to sharpen up his way this would be if he had his way.

Some chapters did little in the way of adding to the arguements made, as Tj points out himself. This aren't a bad thing, they do give a greater insight into the authors world and from watching his video somethings like this do add to the flavour of the book.

His chapter on IGT did feel wholey un finished and he should have worked on a bit more. Not to say that the chapter is worthless to read just needed a fine polish.

Some chapters seem left out, I did thing there would be a chapter on the Army, the rights of the business owner and one about sexual preferances.

Now for the good points, His ideas and arguments are well formed, and the black humor in the book does give a nice lighter tone (that might be a parodox). And are very refreshing to hear and will be quite unexpected to those who go in without know Tj or anything outside the american dream.

So to everyone who is still reading indivuals oppions and not just looking at the dam start system, get this book. Its a great read and is not like it will cost you the world for it, just cut down on your daily sugar intake you monthly budget will balance out. If you never heard of this guy, or you love him, or hate him, buy this book.

Its like a curry, cooked perfectly and wonderly flavored if lacking an nan bread but its STILL A CURRY, and a wonderful one at that.

I have been watching TheAmazingAtheist on Youtube for more than a year now. When I saw his video "Good?" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6-yzdTZYjs) I knew I had to have this book, even though the subject was a bit ambiguous. My grandmother gave me $40 for Christmas and I spent half of it to buy this book.
I got it yesterday and read it in one sitting. I had read the sample chapter he posted on terroja.com and had heard parts of the opening on BlogTV so I somewhat knew what to expect. I expected it to be a great book but not something that told me alot of things I didn't already know. I was right to some extent. In this book, T.J talks about alot of things that he talks about on his Youtube channel. Although the book talks about things I have heard before T.J his very original spin on it which makes it a very interesting read. My favorate part of the book was the extra content he added at the end.
In summation this book was an amazing read. T.J really puts alot of society into perspective. All the other reviews saying stuff about how this book is shit are written by idiots or trolls. Everyone should buy this book.
A poignant and insightful rant.

You've seen The Amazing Atheist "movies", now read the book! One of YouTube's most famous and infamous "vloggers" has written a book, leaving some to say "it's about time!", while others might ask "why?" Either way, it's undeniable this young, outspoken, social commentator has attracted a sizable, and captivated audience on YouTube, as well inspired the creation of countless YouTube channels and "TAA wannabes".

As a fan of TAA's work on YouTube, I was excited to learn he had written a book. The title of the book stirred my imagination and interest, "In Defense Of Evil: Why Good Is Bad And Bad Is Good". What about evil could possibly be defensible? How could good be bad and vice versa? Of course, evil, good and bad are all subjective words, and TAA was all too aware of this when he wrote the book. Intriguing stuff? I thought so.

The book covers TAA's insights, observations and perspectives on an array of sociological and political issues/themes. It becomes fairly obvious this book isn't for everybody after reading the dedication and introduction pages. Whether TAA intended it or not, those first few pages were basically warnings to people who aren't familiar with TAA and his general outlook on life. I would hope anyone who is thinking of reading this book understands that the author is an atheist, very liberal minded, direct and unapologetic, a true rebellious bastard if I ever saw one.

This book is not merely a belligerent rant about "what's wrong with the world according to TAA" (like I thought it might be), but a personal glimpse into the life and ever-evolving perspective of a "thinking man", a "free thinker" and a modern-day American outcast. While TAA is only 23 years old and hardly a professor of sociology, this book was rather engaging and enjoyable to read. There are similar vloggers/authors out there but in my opinion, they're hardly as passionate or unique as TAA, and I think this book validates my opinion.

Is this book breaking new ground? Hardly, at least not when compared to other great authors in history who wrote about similar issues and themes. Keep in mind, this is his -first- book (that I know of anyway) and he's only 23 years old, just imagine what he'll have to tell us in just 5 years from now, I'd love to read that book. TAA's perspective is unique and relevant to our modern times, specifically to people living in this clusterfuck of a country called the United States of America. If you've got an open mind and enjoy TAA on YouTube, I highly recommend you read this book, I wager you'll enjoy it.

This is a very entertaining and thought-provoking piece of work; the ideas expressed will likely be disconcerting to some, and the notion that the vast majority of our central values are baseless may be threatening to others.

I personally found these ideas to be quite liberating, as the idea that we can be our own masters is a powerful and meaningful one, despite Kincaid's occasionally nihilistic conclusions. I found myself agreeing with many premises of this book, but not necessarily the conclusions all of the time, but whatever I felt, I had at least been thinking about important questions about Western culture and society.

It's not perfect, and the egocentric nature of the preamble and some chapters was sometimes off-putting, but this is forgivable given the fact of of Kincaid's YouTube fan-base, which this book will certainly appeal too. At times, it isn't sure if it's a biography or a critique of society; but, again, this is forgivable, and any fan of TheAmazingAtheist will find this an absorbing read.

Please do not pay attention to the trolls posting reviews here who wish to attack someone who can do and is doing something their with cognitive capacity that they simply cannot do themselves.

Although I most certainly don't agree with everything the author writes, I enjoyed the book and thought it was an informative and entertaining read. It's a book that will surely create some controversy with some of his more, ahem, outlandish beliefs but I respect the fact that he speaks his mind and doesn't give a damn if other people get offended.

In a world where the same banal, mundane books are inundated bookstores, it's quite refreshing to see someone who has a different perspective on current affairs and who shatters the traditional social norms and paradigms.

I would recommend this book to anyone with a keen sense of humor, anyone who is politically incorrect, freethinkers, atheists and humanists who are looking for a humorous take on religion, politics and world events.

Lastly, I would encourage folks to have an open mind about some of the subject matter within the book and reserve judgement until they have finished the book. This is definitely writing that will make you think, which is an achievement itself.
Okay book, but, has been done and done better [ No Rating ] 23 Dec 2008
I've been watching the amazingatheist's videos for awhile now and was pleasantly surprised that he had written a book based on his own philosophical rantings. Needless to say I was curious so I decided to find the book and look into it.

Unfortunately this wasn't at all what I was expecting. Maybe I had too high of expectations for this book (but if I do remember correctly there was one video where he mentioned he had almost no college education to speak of, so the jokes on me I guess), but I was expecting much more than this book had to offer.

Although TK brings up a lot of good points in hypocrisy ranging from honor to religion he tends to lack a certain level of unique insight along with anyway to stand out among those who have said similar things before (Fredrick Nietzsche, Voltaire and Lee Gomes come to mind). I kept expecting him to hit the nail on the head, to give me that clincher sentence to end the paragraph, but he never does it. His ideas come out flat almost every time! I also can't help but loath the fact that he uses his personal experiences on youtube.com to prove the legitimacy of his points. I'd think TK ought to know by now that the best and brightest in religious or atheist intellectuals are not on youtube and are most likely teaching in universities and writing articles for a living, and maybe TK prefers to keep it that way.

I don't know why, but I couldn't take this guy as seriously in this book as I can when he makes his videos. He came off as just another talking head, no worse than any Fox News pundit and was filled with stories and morals that were covered in his previous videos.

When I read this book I can't help but think that TK's only worthwhile experiences are only limited to youtube and youtube only. However, if your a non-conformist middle schooler who needs someone older to confirm your own suspicions about religion and societies in general and are willing to spend $15 then this is your book. If you want a more profound and possibly more interesting take on the same subjects than read the works of better educated authors (like the ones I mentioned) or take a sociology class.

Do not listen to the two half-brained idiots who left those bad comments, they just did not understand this book. If you are stupid and cannot function in normal society, I suggest you not buy this book, I mean it hurts your brain. On the other hand, if you actually have a brain stem AND a frontal lobe, you should deffinately buy this. It will make you open your eyes to everything around you, with a little (big) touch of humor. Buy the book.

TL Kincaid is a man of vision with a knack for reducing the ridiculous into a few well-turned phrases and theories. As the Amazing Atheist on Youtube, he has harassed thousands and entertained countless thousands more. His diatribes and rants always make a rudimentary sort of horse-sense, and one never leaves his presence without feeling enlightened.
