Many express the author's own views and experiences, but some are purely out of the imagination. The poems are divided into "elements" to emphasize the wide range of emotions and expressions that we, as humans, experience. Some of the poems are soft and even tender and others are harsh and angry. Life is all about balance, and to appreciate the light one must also understand the dark. Listed in: |

This book of poetry is passionate and, at times, transcendant (take a look at "Music of One" in the Air section, or "The Math of It" in the Water section). It's easy to choose what to read depending on your mood. If you choose the Fire poems, be ready for some deeply felt commentary about the state of the world. Or, wait a minute, is that about American politics? That's the beauty of Carol Digou's poems - they can be read on a number of different levels and interpreted individually. If you go for more earthy stuff, check out the sensuality and the irony in "The Victim." If you're looking for lighter fare, read her uniquely Alaskan "Fireweed" and "Denali." This slim volume is portable and well worth the read. You can find something different in each poem, and multiple readings can create more layers and dimensions of meaning.
