What can you say about a man who uses the word "the" as a keyword for his book? I am only partially through "Emporers" and find myself laughing out loud - usually because of the book, sometimes due to my own neuroses. In all seriousness, as a fellow blogger/writer, I eye Aaron's work with the suspicion that only a fellow blogger/writer could have -- but I confess the journey is a great one. His 'DVD commentary' on his blogs is a great, behind-the-scenes little-bit-extra that is very original and depth-adding (depth-adding? well you know what I mean). I heartily recommend this book, easily because of or in spite of the piece about taking a poop.
Populist Blogger Aaron Dietz is to MySpace and new media what Jon Bon Jovi is to New Jersey and rock! Herein, Dietz unleashes his firebrand wit and melting neopolitan style ice creamer figurines on the new media proselytes and their propensity for flattery and silicone boobery. Finally, someone has noticed that new media is no longer new and that we need to come up with a new word for media that was once new and is now not so new.
Hailing from the seclusion of the pacific northwest, Aaaaaron Deitz is likely the finest wiskey-toting keyboard rebel west of the Mississippi, as will be quickly evidenced by a read-through of his first novel, a collection of blogs entitled 'Reserved for Emperors' - an appropraite title given the numer of penguins resident in the frozen straits of downtown Seattle. Aaaaaron's blogs are timeless glimpses inside the mind of an antithesis of American consumerism. Insightful, humorous, and at times outright bizarre, 'Reserved for Emperors' is always entertaining and might just change the world - or at least prompt you to do so - or maybe just foster a bit of faith in the fact that you surely won't, but perhaps someone else can. In short, buy this book, curl up in your comfy organic sofa, sip a fair-trade nonfat latte, and enjoy. God knows it's better than anything on television.
I read Aaron's book recently and oh my Zeus it is amazingly brilliant. I love love love - have naughty dreams about - love the commentary. Ok, so really I have not had any naughty dreams about the commentary, but if the commentary asked me to, I might just do so.
