Parents Provide Roots and Wings is the GEAR UP parenting program focused on the year of transition from high school to college. The main goal of this parenting program is to assist parents to make that difficult transition as painless as possible. Within our overarching goal ,we hope to have parents accomplish the following: Share information and ideas on the college parenting process Understand their children/understand themselves during this transition Learn about adolescent development Visit a college and get ideas on what to look for and how to choose Coping with separation Learn to care for themselves during this transition We hope to guide parents through a variety of activities wherein they will reflect, problem solve, role play, and share ideas and strategies which will make this transition in an informed manner
