This is, I think, original Runic writing. I was staying right out in the countryside and there's a little church nearby. In the traditional Christian graveyard, there's a kind of carved... not quite a pole as it has four sides and is made of stone, about eight feet high. It has this writing on.
I know a lot of churches were built on sites that were traditionally sacred to previous religious beliefs to try and take over those followers, so I'm supposing it was to do with that somehow.
