Kids of all ages (meaning people like me) are going to get a big kick out of the zany humor and irresistible drawings in WHAT'S THAT NOISE. Christensen is a very talented cartoonist, and some of the creatures he comes up with here could easily star in their own books. (I keep flipping back to the bouncing green hippo and the pterodactyl in a rocking chair, for example.) Let's hope for more from this author!
Screeech! Ping! Ker-Plunk! Loved those sound effects.
A charming book for the littlest readers, though anyone who appreciates cartooning will appreciate the lively artwork. Fun creatures turn up on every page, and the text has a Dr. Seuss-like quality that makes you recite it aloud. (Maybe the author should do a companion Audiobook or podcast.)
Highly recommended!
I HAVE GIVEN THIS BOOK TO A NUMBER OF CHILDREN AND WATCHED THEIR DELIGHT AT THE GREAT AND TRULY FUNNY DRAWINGS. THE QUALITY OF THE PUBLICATION IS FIRST CLASS AND THE COLOURS VIVIDLY REPRODUCED. IT SHOULD BE IN SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES AS AN EDUCATIONAL TOOL.
I MOST WARMLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE TO BE PUBLISHED.
Tomas Christensen is a truly talented author and artist. This book really does a great job of making sense of things for kids, in a humorous and interesting way. He stakes a claim as a worthy 21st Century Dr. Seuss.
This book is a gem for teaching text concepts to all ages in the lower school. Along with the bright and exciting illustrations, the book provides plenty of scope for introducing, exploring and discussing concepts such as;
* question and answer
* onomatopoeia
* speech bubbles
* text emphasis
* rhyming words
* and using the format as an innovation on text activity.
Children will enjoy the imaginative responses to questions they may have asked themselves and will love the humour that is evident.
Highly recommended!
