This manual contains all the slides, publications and protocols of the Cardiac Surgical Unit Advanced Life Support course. (www.csu-als.com). This course teaches the full range of emergency scenarios for patients after cardiac surgery, including cardiac arrest and emergency resternotomy, tracheostomy emergencies, hypotension, pacing and airway emergencies, IABP placement and set-up, internal massage and also CXR, ECG and blood gas interpretation.
We have also worked with EACTS to provide the first protocol for arrests after cardiac surgery. Our aim is to get all cardiac surgical intensive care units practising for their biggest emergencies and we hope that this manual will equip units to be able to do this on a regular basis.
