I read the final story first in this collection because it was the shortest. I will say I can see where Hodgson influenced H.P. Lovecraft as well as me because I am currently writing a story which is a ghost story. Hodgson is a gothic horror author who is equal to H.P. Lovecraft, the House of Borderland is Hodgson's signature story right there. The difference between Lovecraft and Hodgson are that Lovecraft is a heavier handed style of a horror, by creating the character as Cthulhu and Dagon. Hodgson created an enduring story as The Borderlands, and his influence can be felt in authors Stephen King, Richard Matheson, Michael Lovell, Jr. and some of the authors who are published on lulu. The story that the readers will see of mine influenced by Hodgson is The Ferryman's Wheelchair.
