Description:

Lynn, in a blink-of-the-eye event, loses the person dearest in the world to her--her husband. This tragedy starts Lynn out on both a spiritual search, in which she delves into meditation and Eastern religion, and a path of self-destruction. Things start to go better for Lynn, however, when, as a way of looking outside of herself, she volunteers at a suicide-prevention hotline and begins to develop a relationship with a caller… Or do they? Numbering Stars is an elegiac love story, an exploration of life and meaning, and a suspenseful read rolled into one. It is ultimately about a woman who is struggling with faith under the onus of loss—who keeps trying and failing and trying again.

Charlotte Hebert has the magic of professional writers. I am very glad I read Numbering Stars, her most recent book to my knowledge. The next one I am very much looking foward to reading.

This is a wonderful story told in a truly unique writing style. The frequent parethetical additions explaining, justifying or personalizing the previous thought added an enlarged dimension to the basic story. We are taken from a tragic and sensless loss by the main character, through a difficult time of mental and even physical adjustment and adventure to a final budding romance at the end. You who are sentimental - beware of the last chapter!

This is a very well thought out book! It takes some major turns and twists along the way that your not expecting, which makes for great reading! The sensitivity of the subject was so well expressed that it made me not want to put it down until I was done! Bravo!!

This book is not the kind of fluffy fiction I usually go for - it deals with some weighty issues. But it is done with a light and expert touch and is a pleasure to read. In fact, by the last third of the book I was completely glued to the text. Good stuff!
A great read... [ No Rating ] 17 Jan 2007
This is a terrific book -- which just gets better as you go along. The final sections are brilliant; movingly written, well-paced, and basically unputdownable.
