"The Dancer is Dead" seems more like "Radnofsky is tasteless toast!" I read the on-line version and was depressed for my political party. Gene Kelley would have made a finer candidate in comparison to the clown I am embarrassed I voted for in the April run-off election. I am a life long Democrat and usually vote straight ticket D in general elections. After reading the book I was even more determined to vote against Radnofsky and for a Senate candidate that does something for my home state and my hometown. Radnofsky is an embarrassment and I am ashamed of myself for voting for her in April 2006. My wife and I followed her campaign and thought there could be some hope. Then my wife showed me a tasteless website advertisement where a sock puppet with blonde hair is used. For any candidate to call a sitting US Senator an aging prom queen, puppet and probably other rude words shows the caliber of her intelligence. Just because you’re a wife, mother, mediator, teacher and whatever else you write about doesn't make you God's gift to the US Senate. What I learned in Catholic school here in Corpus Christi, Texas is that a little humility can go a long way. I urge all readers to donate their money to a worthy cause, like ending world hunger or saving our environment. Don't waste your money on this trash. I made two mistakes this year. First, voting for Radnofsky in April 2006 and second, wasting money on this book. Luckily, I voted for a winner yesterday and no doubt gave my vote to a Senator who has earned it. God Bless Texas!

The reviews below (with one exception repeated for emphasis!) are typical Republican hooligan trashing of the most intelligent candidate the Texas Democratic Party has managed to convince to run for the U.S. Senate in 20 years, or at least since Lloyd Bentsen graced the Senate. And it's obvious most of you never bothered to read the entire book, or you'd KNOW her stands on just about everything. Read the Issues Chart near the end of the book that compares Barbara Ann's stance on everything with that of KBH. This book doesn't pretend to be a edge-of-your-seat thriller...it's intended to be a diary of her journey (500 trips in 2 years) against the odds and the great people of the Great State of Texas that she's met along the way. It's written in an easy-to-read style, and she wrote it herself, using her Blackberry during her many trips across the state. Everyone who's met her in the past two years is pretty impressed with her. And Barbara Ann will be a Senator for ALL the people, not just the privileged few, like the current senior senator from Texas.
To the previous reviews by Republicans trolling this site I say the following:
1) This woman has a sense of humor. Imagine that.
2) She is sharp, assertive, and knows her facts. Her delivery during the debate was brilliant, inspiring and authoritative. All that K. Bailey Hutchinson could muster were smiles and flag-waving and empty words from yesteryear. Radnovsky has a clear direction of where TX and the US needs to head this Nov.
Texas needs a Real Woman and a Real Change. Vote for Radnovsky. You may not enjoy her writing, she's a politician not Shakespeare....But she at least knows what the hell is going on in this country!

I wasn't expecting Hemmingway, but this is even worse than I thought. I'll admit I just read the free stuff available online, but that's all you need to see.
Please...let the Democrats nominate a real candidate next time...

The other critiques here are pretty harsh, but it's hard not to agree with them. I just checked out the preview, and I came away really disappointed. I don't think I've ever read a political memoir that wasn't self-obsessed and frankly, bad. But at least most people wait until they're actually elected to something to do one.
Reading her biography, she just seems like some lawyer who decided she wanted to be somebody and run for Senate. She hasn't even been elected to city council, and as someone else remarked, is beating Gene Kelly a real accomplishment to be proud of?

A vote for Barb would be like voting to move Texas back to 1955. If Texas wants to remain competitive in tomorrow's global economy we need a leader to take us there...one thing's for sure...she's not that person!
After reading this book I have walked away with nothing more then an understanding that Barb is backward thinking, visionless, and incapable of seeing the bigger picture. I highly recommend you to put down your mouse, walk away from your computer and unplug it, so you loose this web page...DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!!

Wow. I'm definately not a fan of Radnofsky anyway, but this REALLY settles it. I thought I was going to get a healthy dose of standard liberal, Michael Moore faire, but I instead got the mad ravings of a crazy woman.
Does Barbara Radnofsky have 130 cats in her house? That's what I kept thinking as I read this.
As for her trips across Texas, her surprised observations of ordinary Texans make it clear that even though she may have lived here her whole life, she never got out much. She seems blissfully ignorant of what makes Texans tick. I mean, how else can you explain going to West Texas and talking about the need to pull out of Iraq immediately.
I almost expected her to go to Midland and declare that football was a dangerous and violent sport, as out of touch as she is.
I read this as a class assignment. I would much rather have failed the class instead. God, that was abysmal. Please, can I have my life back?

I read about this in the New York Times and wanted to hear what Barbara Ann was going to do when she gets elected. I downloaded it and it's just a bunch of boring posts from her weblog strung together with no coherent purpose.
I want to hear where she stands on health care for all, getting out of Iraq, etc. All I got was her own "Look at me, I'm important" view of the world. If we Democrats can't start nominating people with real ideas instead of people so consumed with their own ego like Tony Sanchez and Barbara Radnofsky, we're never going to get anywhere. The only way to beat Republicans is with better ideas, not with the same old same old politicians who are really in it all for themselves.

This is a joke, right? Barbara Radnofsky spends $800,000 to defeat a dead dancer who spent $1,000 for the filing fee...and now she writes a memoir? She's not even within 30 points of her opponent in the election, gets almost no press, and has no apparent base of support, so she has to go to Starbucks and harrangue people.
This is the most wierd, arrogant, pathological thing I've ever seen. To write a book, furthermore, is just odd. I guess it's a free country, but this is just Freudian.
The part about the injured bird was just strange. I rate zero on the relevance scale, 10 on the humor scale.
