Description:An emerging global project, YRUHRN, created the first book designed, written, edited, marketed, and published using the wisdom of crowds involving over 1,000 people. YRUHRN is based on hundreds of people answering the question, “Why Are You Here – Right Now” via the Amazon service, Mechanical Turk. When a man having coffee decided to post a question on an internet site, interesting things began to unfold. The question was, “Why are you here – right now?” Over 500 people answered the question for the price of a penny. When the man emailed people to ask if they would be interested in making this book, the response was positive and the energy was contagious. About 20 of these stay at home moms, artists, and professionals formed a team, the Ishidos. They agreed to donate one third of profits to help children affected by Hurricane Katrina, created a website at http://www.yruhrn.com and then set out to create the book. “Why Are You Here – Right Now?” Keywords:Listed in: |

The book itself is very thought provoking, making one really ponder their purpose in life. It has the ability to set a person in the right mind set. It moves you to wonder what the other person might be thinking about why they think they are here. Five Star.
Wonderful book, I love it.
Verice
Some strain to make their thoughts relevant -- the "book" is really just a good collection of (sitting down/lots of time) toilet graffiti.
I suggest that you put this book in the same place and then reflect on others' thoughts as a catalyst to consider your own.
There are no answers here and probably should not be. The reader may be provoked to thought or bored with others' "irrelevant" or "trivial" thoughts.
If you want the wisdom of crowds, look for more interactive examples (cocktail party conversation, eg)
This is a snapshot of history from the perspective of the end user, not what the corps want us to think happened.
And this was all done using Scribus on Linux? This is even more awesome. Good work!
It really does flow as though you are walking thru a city street and hearing the thoughts of those around you. There are the funny wise crackers, the parents and soon to be parents contiplating the change of life a new little one brings, grandparents looking back on their lives and seeing the future with their children's children. There are students, business people, homemakers, husbands and wives...all letting you into a small place in their lives. There is even a couple of those strange crazy people that you look at and wonder what goes on in their heads, but never asked. After reading this, now I know!
It's also great for those out there that have not ever stopped to ask them selves this question. It will make you stop and think about where you really are, not just physically, but mentally, spirtually and cosmically.
Why are you here right now also lets you know that you are not alone in some of your darkest times, there are cancer patients, those that have lost loved ones, and those that can not find the will to forgive themselves or others.
In this day of age that we all try to put on a mask and hide those feelings that we think may not be 'correct', this lets you know that you are not alone, there are others out there that are just like you, and it's okay to not be perfect or in the perfect place in your life.
A highly recommened read, and definately a thought to ponder. Why Are You Here - Right Now??
I throughly enjoyed the stories of this book and I hope there are many more books to come which will ask additional probing questions which will reveal all of our true selves to ourselves. I know this will be the book that I will pick up at all times in my life from now on to be inspired or to laugh or just because; for no reason at all...
Job well done... thank you so much for writing YRUHRN!
Wanting more, needing less, my psyche was
pin pricked by painful realities. Cause and
effect. Why me? Why not someone else?
As I read your book empathy crashed my
pity party. Oh what a "dirty bird" I've
been. To wallow in sorrow, feeling empty,
feeling nothing, when 1,000 people reached
out to vent to strangers, to me.
A penny for your thoughts...oh please..
They needed to show themselves. Without feeling
any guilt. Your question came to them
like a thief in the night. To steal a part of
them that needed to be taken. And in turn
your book definitely has the potential to make a
difference in someone's life. A healing of
sorts, a bonding of kindred spirits. The melting
pot of all melting pots. Great job! Looking forward
to reading more.
