Whilst the story is basically similar to other colonised peoples of the “New Worlds” (land loss, disease, rapid reduction in population and warfare against the coloniser etc.) the uniqueness of the Maori experience produced an outcome very different to most other peoples. Unconquered in warfare, Maori eventually signed a “Treaty” with the British. The attendant introduction of Christianity produced a defining transformation and legacy, for a crucial potential arose under a line of key Maori Prophets. They imbued the Christian religion with a particular spiritual element which transcended the European version. Unparalleled in the history of colonisation, that potential was unfortunately not recognised in its fundamental significance by the collective body of the Maori Race. The unfulfilled mission is revealed in this Work! Listed in: |
