Only downside is the knowledge that none of it is going to be resolved for another 2 books.
The characters have so much depth and really transform over time due to their experiences. They are very real and believable and you can tell a great deal of preparation went into this book.
This book was well worth the price and will likely be one of the most engaging books you will have read in many years.
My heart blead for them, and I really do hope some justice is done to the main characters in the next book!
Well-written, great plot and great characters!
Really can't wait to find out what happens!
Such a wonderful story. It just pulls you in and doesn't let you go till the end. Could NOT put this one down! :) Can't wait for the next one!!
Coursework lost out big time to suspense as I kept turning the pages desperate to find out what happened. Does Alex love her, will Lydia get to be Queen, did Bale really betray them, how far will Valery go to get what he wants?????
Just as things start to become clear danger looms and the author leaves us desperate for more. So the question is, when is the next book out?
Wheels are set in motion through out the book, and not all of them are stopped by the end of it. There are a few twists here and there, but if you read carefully there are enough clues to make the outcomes surprising but plausible.
It makes a wonderful and refreshing change to read a fantasy book with truly normal people. The King is very young, his lover a slight woman, and the bad guys are well hidden and cunning. There are a few stereotypes of course, the elderly Kings adviser, the stuck-up female relative, but they are the help and hinder of our main heroes, and give the story it's fantastic qualities.
A great book, and I can't wait to find out what happens next!

The world stands on the edge of peace, the first peace for a thousand years. A fragile alliance has been formed between the New Kingdom and Telesia, and they have agreed in principle to set aside their centuries-old quarrel over land and culture. The deal has been forged by the efforts of Alex, the peace-loving newcomer to the throne. But things are about to change. Alex meets and falls in love with Lydia, a fisher's daughter from the east, to the displeasure of both his family and his friends. His aunt has already arranged for the alliance with Telesia to become a permanent and marital one, and the sudden arrival of Lydia throws all her carefully laid plans into jeopardy. And then an horrific act of betrayal drives the world once more to the brink of war.
