Even if you are like me, the type of person who rarely purchases extra things, this book is a must. First, its important to support the artist. Second, its not simply a collection of images... The experience of seeing characters I love printed out in a format I can hold in my hands, without the whole glaring computer screen business is quite nice. Third, what can I say that has not already been said? You should buy it. Its lovely.
The Artwork of Gina Biggs... [ No Rating ] 18 Jan 2007 (updated 18 Jan 2007)
Is nothing short of amazing when you're told she's a self-taught artist. Theme aside, this book was made for love. Gina Biggs is one of the most dedicated women of her chosen profession in the western world. Each page has its own story. You can read it off the individual facial expressions and body language of the characters, all of which are uniquely their own with none borrowed. Gina utilizes her wide pallette of colour and toner selection wisely to create a complicated setting and wardrobe for her characters that distinctly compliments the story or characters at heart. Gina's work covers diverse grounds in genre, obvious even in this one artbook as she presents scenes of modern day Tokyo sweethearts to medival courtship to mythological romantic tragedy. There is some reason to love all of Gina's characters and between this and her other stories no two characters are alike (save, perhaps, the brothers Jirou and Ryou Ogawa, that is ;). Gina shows us scenes from every day life, like a popsicle with your kid brother on a hot day, simple moments of family and friendship, to the daring of adolecent life. Whatever she takes on Gina's art is always shining.
