Meet our calendar model, Ellie. Born prematurely in March '05 in Dallas, TX, she spent the first 4 weeks of life in a Neonatal ICU before going home amid high hopes that her troubles were over. Unfortunately, by 9 months, it was obvious her motor skills were delayed. After an MRI, Ellie was diagnosed as having periventricular leukomalacia (PVL), caused by a stroke in utero or shortly after birth. This damaged the white matter of her brain, affecting muscle control. As a result, Ellie has cerebral palsy and needs lots of special care, including weekly therapies.
