Cheap Insurance

Once you get past the first 25+ pages of why to be prepared, it's quite a good and interesting read. The author even goes into cheaper methods than the $500 listed in the title, so he lays different options out for you, even doing a little bit at a time.

It's a good read but you should also consider grabbing the free download of survival homesteading to go with it.

I gave it 4 stars vs 5 stars because some of the ideas are untested by the author.
