'Trainer Development' provides the reader with a clear description of an approach to teacher and trainer development based on specific examples from the varied and extensive practical experience of the two authors. That in itself would be a reason to read it.

However, it also provides thought-provoking and stimulating accounts of the theories and beliefs which have shaped that approach. It sets these out clearly, questions them, and notes where they may not have worked 100%.
This is done through a clear, highly readable text which will invaluable for trainers, future trainers, textbook writers or anyone concerned about educational standards.

Reading 'Trainer Development' feels like having a good face-to-face conversation with the authors. The 'voices' that come through are concerned,
experienced, imaginative - and above all, human.

This is a book I have read straight through 'for pleasure' and which I will undoubtedly return to in order to get my own thoughts working before planning any kind of training work. Reading it clarifies one's own ideas and reminds one of a huge range of possibilities. Inspirational!

Trainer Development: A Review [ No Rating ] 12 Mar 2007 (updated 12 Mar 2007)
This is an excellent book, and highly recommended for anyone who is embarking on teacher development, or indeed for those with experience who want to take a step back and develop new frameworks for thinking. A superb combination of theory and practice, it gives a comprehensive overview of everything from planning courses to running and evaluating them. It's full of penetrating insights into the way teachers learn from their own experience and through dialogue with others, and the role a trainer can play in facilitating this. While by no means a recipe book, it offers several highly practical examples of activities for working with teachers. It's written in highly accessible language - and contains many revealing insights and honest accounts of lived experience in the training room. I'm confident that whether starting out as a trainer, or already experienced and wanting to reconnect with a vision of how training can be, this book will be an extremely useful and enjoyable read.
