Jerusalem, 70 A.D. As the besieged city falls to the Romans, a Jewish priest rescues a precious cargo.

Jerusalem, 2007. When a bomb destroys a museum of biblical archaeology, the Israeli government blames Arab terrorists. Journalist Benjamin Jordan finds disturbing holes in the official explanation and quickly finds himself in the crosshairs.

One person could help unravel the plot -- Professor Catherine Cavanaugh -- but she has powerful reasons to keep her knowledge to herself.

Driven by ambition, scarred by terrorism, torn by the crosscurrents of an age-old conflict, Jordan must decide whom to trust and how far he'll go. His digging could unlock a 2,000-year-old mystery -- and unleash a cataclysm.

This is the best book I've read in ages. I was in the middle of Richard North Patterson's "Afghan" when I picked this up. Jezebel is so much better. Couldn't put it down. There isn't a spare word. On one level it is a great action story. On another, well . . . anyone who has any concern about the Middle East can begin to gain some, hopefully compassionate, understanding of the struggles of all concerned. WOW!!

This action packed "what if" thriller based on volatile ancient secrets is far from run of the mill. Clever and astonishingly well researched historical and religious premises, this is a thought provoking page turner with all the right ingredients to keep you in high suspense to the last page. Telling you more than this would spoil the intricate plot: It's good. Damn good. And sure to entertain.

The first 90% of the book was great. It kept turning the pages long after I said I would stop. It seems like the author decided that he wanted to wrap everything up quickly and move on. All the suspense that was evident in the beginning just vanished.
Lives up to all its good buzz...

I just finished Jezebel's Tomb and have to say it's one of those hard-to-come-by page turners that belongs in the category of "Don't Bother Me, I'm Reading!".

After a colleague recommended it I read the first chapters of the serialized version on the washingtonpost.com website. I got so involved in the story that I couldn't wait for the next installments and am delighted I bought the book.

This is a gem that will go on our book club list immediately. I couldn't put it down!

If you're looking for an engaging tale with fantastic writing, characters, and plot that will make you say "OH MY GOD!", here's a gem you won't want to miss.

Can't recommend highly enough!!

If I were a creative-writing teacher, I would assign this book as an example of how NOT to write. "The springs of her desk chair squeaked with outrage."

Sounds like an angry mouse!

This is a great thriller! Hilzenrath must have done extensive research, because he's able to describe everything so vividly. The story is both thought-provoking and fun, with Indiana Jones touches.

Jezebel's Tomb is a thoughtful, engrossing, enormously fun-to-read thriller. The characters are finely drawn, the exotic locales are so well described that you feel like you're there, and the story rips along at a breathtaking pace. The perfect book for your next vacation -- at the beach or lounging comfortably on your own sofa.

An engrossing read that was impossible to put down! To the casual reader, Jezebel’s Tomb might read like another in a series of Dan Brown inspired race against time, clue solving, country hoping, and hormone tension filled romantic thrillers. The casual reader is forewarned: these are where the similarities begin and quickly end. Unlike Mr. Brown who draws his plots from age old conspiracies that are, by their very nature, opaque, in dispute, and recently debunked, Mr. Hilzenrath weaves an intricate tale around passages taken from the bible (old and new testament), the Koran, and other noted historical sources of antiquity. Jezebel’s Tomb is every bit the page turner one hopes for. However, the greatest satisfaction comes when putting the book down and taking the time to contemplate what was just read. Of special note: man’s relationship and responsibility to his fellow man and the juxtaposition between contemporary mores to those described in the various religious and historical texts cited in the book. Jezebel’s Tomb was a personal journey that I greatly appreciated because I was able to continue developing my belief system.
