It is said that tactics are 99% of the game of Chess so it only makes sense to work on the part of your game that will improve your playing most overall.

Having said that, I can recommend these two books (predator 1 and predator 2) without reservation.

They are written in a clear concise manner that fully explains not only HOW you take advantage of tactical situations, but WHY you do also! I promise; if you use them, you can't help but improve rapidly!

I've owned a lot of chess books, but these are far and away the ones that have helped me the most.

If you have trouble formulating plans, seeing situations, and taking advantage of positions that pop up on your chess board...these books are for you!

The quality of the typesetting and binding is good also so they will last a long time.

After reading the Book I ,I can only recommend it to anyone who isn't yet familiar with chess tactics. Not so many algebraic chess notations but clear explanations and many examples to learn from.

I am reading the web version of this book and find it very helpful. It gives very detailed systematic understandable explanations of chess tactics. In addition, when a tactic is not readily apparent, it also explains how to force the opponent into a position that allows you to execute it. I think this book is destined to become a chess classic. I highly recommend it.

I´m really enthusiastic about these books! They cover all tactical problems in clear words; starting with easy examples and getting step by step deeper in more difficult problems, they finally make it possible for everybody to understand indeed what “chess-thinking” means. (None of the chessbooks I read – also in german language – are able to manage this!) So I highly recommend them to anybody, who wants to get further in his chess-abilities away from boring notations and incomprehensible explanations. ----- nach langer suche und vielen fehlkäufen punkto schachbücher für den selbstunterricht, bin ich auf die webseite des autors dieses buches gestoßen. sofort war ich von der klaren und instruktiven art der vermittlung, auch kompexerer themen, fasziniert und begeistert. da ich aber kein freund des studierens am bildschirm bin, war ich höchst erfreut zu erfahren, dass es diese einmalige taktikschule nun auch in buchform gibt! endlich ein buch, dass einem genau erklärt, worauf zu achten ist, woran man denken soll und wie man seinen schachblick trainiert. man hat das gefühl, einen trainer neben sich sitzen zu haben, der einem freundlich und geduldig alles erklärt! es ist klar und übersichtlich aufgebaut: man beginnt bei jedem thema mit den einfachen beispielen und wird schritt für schritt an die schwereren herangeführt. man kann es von vorne bis hinten durchstudieren oder pickt sich einzelne kapitel heraus. es ist faszinierend, wie sich die zugangsweise zum spiel ändert, wie man plötzlich dinge sieht, die einem vorher verborgen waren! selbst wenn das vorwissen nur aus der bewegungsart der figuren besteht, kann man das buch beginnen - aber auch fortgeschrittene werden es mit gewinn studieren - es ist einfach sehr weit gefächert und deckt die gesamte taktikthematik ab - kein wunder bei insgesamt 700 seiten!!!(band 1&2) man kann es auch wie ein trainingsbuch verwenden: nur die abbildungen studieren und dann erst die erklärung lesen (die oft noch zusätzliche details und feinheiten enthüllt...). ich kann es also nur vorbehaltlos empfehlen - es macht nicht nur spass (im gegensatz zu den trockenen taktikbüchern die ich sonst kenne) sondern es wirkt auch! (der sprachstil ist auch sehr verständlich - ich lese es ohne mühe unter verwendung meines mangelhaften mittelschulenglisch´) also unbedingt kaufen - diese bücher sind echt ein glücksfall!
