Readers are taken through the author’s pregnancy, delivery, her son’s diagnosis of adrenocortical carcinoma, and ultimately her unrelenting depression. It is a realistic account of a mother’s fight to save her son’s life, to reclaim her family, and in the end to save her from the guilt that she allowed to consume her for years. Krajewski speaks honestly about the emotions most mothers don’t want to admit feeling. Her candidness spins a tale of fear and grief. It shows the raw pain that this monster of a disease causes. Krajewski has given readers the opportunity to stand in her shoes and experience something nobody should endure; however, in the end it is a story of survival, determination, a mother’s refusal to allow her child to become a statistic, and ultimately inspiration. {But you'll hound them to get your copy back, for fear of losing it!}
Buffy has the ability to draw you into her story, like no other writer ever has.
Before you turn the first page; get a babysitter, order in, ask your significant other to run the errands, call in sick to work, rest up and have a shower, because once you start reading, you WILL ignore the rest of the world, until you turn the very last page!
I know this writer, I know and love her family, and unfortunately, I know this cancer, too...
but still, the power of her experiences, and the soulful and eloquent way she has chronicled them here,
enlightened and enriched my spirit as deeply as it will anyone who is new to her story.
I didn't expect that-
I expected to finish it, and only come away with a better understanding of who SHE is as a mother, and a person I love...
because I already knew her experiences SO well.
I was wrong.
I came away with a better understanding of who I AM as well, and with a renewed sense of hope and strength, for the rest of MY own personal journey. If this small but mighty 'Mamma bear' could take on all that she did, and not only survive, but OVERCOME, then surely I could too, with inspiration like that, to fuel me!
Her incredibly descriptive passages allowed me to walk in HER shoes, but also put me so 'in the moment', that I found myself fighting HER fight, and spilling HER tears, along with my own.
And, I found myself celebrating her triumph at the end as well; as though it WERE my own.
Tristan IS a miracle.
Even were he NOT the survivor of such a harrowing beginning to life; he would be a blessed, and beloved child to us all...
but the fact that he has come through challenges that would break the spirits of strong men TEN times his size,
with such irrepressible strength, and humour, and joy...
keeps us all from ever uttering the words' 'It's too HARD', when we have to face our own challenges, EVER again.
Though you will embark on a deep and emotional journey by opening this book...
you MUST understand, that the destination each page leads you to closer to; is HOPE
and once you have closed the back cover,
you will never think any adversity insurmountable again... nor any goal, too far out of reach.
I don't know from where the exact 'seed' of inspiration is first planted in the reader, as they surrender themselves to this story...
whether it comes from Tristan, or Buffy... (in some ways though, they become ONE entity born of the fight)
I only know that WHEN you leave this story behind and go back to the 'real world',
you WILL be changed.
You WILL be inspired.
You will be GRATEFUL, for all your own blessings,
and for the way that this talented writer and incredible little boy, have touched your soul.
I want to start out by saying I am NOT a reader of books. But I could not put it down once I started reading it. The book had me in tears at times to pure happiness at other times. It was so well written, Buffy takes you through all her thoughts and feelings in such a way, it was like I was her and going through it all. It really touched my heart. I would recommend this to anyone who loves to read and people like me who dont, this book gets your hooked from the very first few opening words. Buffy is such an inspiration to all women to trust your motherly instinct and fight for what you know is right. She is a brave person to go through all she did and then find the strength to put it down in words. She should be so proud!! This book should be on the Oprah's book club list in my eye's. Buffy is an amazing women and writer and most of all a loving mother of that amazing and miracle boy named Tristan!!
