This is a book like 'Eric' (by Doris Lund), and I find it to be on much the same level. It is in many places Harsh, and it is always Honest. It is a look into someone who is pulling himself through something that many of us cant imagine. It is a book that should be read. By adults. By teens. I'm 23, and can pull support from it, things that tie in with my stuggles in life. I say Oh wow, I've felt just like that. This isnt some bull story, its REAL. The horrors are not sugar coated, and the Hope isnt empty. When you finish it you've gained something you didnt have before. 'Eric' used to be my real life textbook, now I have 2 such textbooks that I go to when it gets rocky. Read it.
This book is a truly DRAMATIC book, and as such... has become a favorite story of mine... not because it is always happy and wonderful, but because it does present a period of trauma, challenges, disasters, and true recovery...
In that regard... it's really unforgettable... and a tribute to the highs, lows, challenges, and miracles that ALL of us can face in life. Having been through some similar things myself.... THIS is something that I can attest to. Stranger than reality? .... or so someone said.
I don't think so. This is a story that will really grip you, and in the end... like the story did for me... will inspire you.
Once again Mr. Kelly takes us on an emotional roller coaster ride. Stuart drowns his sorrows, at the loss of his best friend, in drugs and depression falling ever deeper into the pit before taking on his demons and himself. As he fights for his very life he discovers another side of himself.
