Description:

Life is not just sweetness, it is a journey. Mountains and valleys, laughter and tears, when the stresses faced by your child are more than a stage… This is the story of one mother’s struggle to adjust to and accept the reality of facing her adopted son’s life being challenged by BIPOLAR DISORDER, FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME, and REACTIVE ATTACHMENT DISORDER. Then finding that her birth-son’s life is being irrevocably changed by the devastation of SCHIZOPHRENIA… It is a story of spiritual struggle and tested faith, as forced to hospitalize her son, she faced the tragedy and torment, the heights of hope, and the depths of despair as she searches to find a meaning, a reason, a knowledge about these diagnoses' and treatments, and a positive end to this disease... Recorded introspection and inspiration in the form of poetry, short stories, and reminiscences… This is the story of: Questioning Life Questioning God Questioning Hope and Questioning the limits of Love…

In reading your 'preview' I could really relate to how you feel. Just when I gave a relieved 'Sigh' that my extremely defiant and rebellious teen daughter finally turned 18, graduated and moved out with a surprisingly positive attitude on life, I turn around and my 12 year old son, with ADHD is becoming increasingly mouthy and seems to be good at failing in school.
The beautiful poetry in this book exposes a very intimate, deep talent for writing as an art form. I do love to read heartfelt poetry whenever I can. I would urgently recommend that all parents purchace this book and remember, we are all just doing the best we can, Parenting, the last frontier!

Betty Jo _ A great Author. [ No Rating ] 3 Sep 2004
This work is hauntingly beautiful, based on real life which makes it even more powerful. I have never read such poignant poems, Betty Jo's mastery with words, and the emotion behind them makes this a must read for everyone. I would love to see this book selling millions, so the world can see how good she is. I am not rating this, because it deserves more than three thumbs up.
With great respect from an awed author, Angela Hooper

Bittersweet thoughts and observations that would touch any parent's heart. You can feel the author reaching for meaning and beauty through tears, pain and hardship.... and finding it. I think this book would be a blessing to anyone who finds themselves dealing with a serious illness with a child. With the importance of the meaning behind the words, one would almost think that the author's gift of style and her ear for rhythmn would be besides the point, but it is not. A very moving experience.

I really love to read each and every content of the book. The themes are close to writer's heart-entwinned in bright imagery and scars of life. The grey part of life are deeply focussed in her own inimitable way.Beautifully expressed, the book is a must for everyone.

Living in Chaos Review [ No Rating ] 11 Aug 2004
Using her poet’s pen, Betty Jo walks the reader through the journey of loving and parenting a child with mental illness. Combining poetry and personal commentary, this book inspired me as I read her insights into the desperation and hope, tenderness and frustration, exhaustion and tenacity that she lives daily. Being a mom of a teen with bipolar disorder, I connected at the deepest level with the mother’s heart that flows through each writing. The candid tone of the commentaries encouraged me that there indeed is hope even in the midst of the crises that come, that challenges are blessings in disguise. I appreciated that her poetry is artistic and beautiful, yet gritty with the voice of experience. It was a great reminder that I’m not alone.
