This book is not the most fancy and it was written in an era when wrestlers still tried to convince people wrestling was real and so did the writers such as Dale Pierce. Thus, this book may not be for modern fans who are used to everyone coming clean with the fakery, but more for the old-fashioned fans who remember wrestling when it was wrestling and not sports entertainment. I miss the old days and this book was great for bringing back some of the people from the past who are never mentioned any more. I just wish it was longer, but maybe the author will do another project along this line some day.
Sadly, The Comamcharos, the key villains in this story (They were known as The Hells Angels in the midwest before heading to Arizona) are no longer with us. The old Phoenix Madison Square Garden has also passed into legend as it was torn down in 2006. Likewise, many of the other wrestlers mentioned in the text or shown in photos such as Buddy Rogers, Fred Blassie, Lou Thesz, Gorgeous George and the like have also passed on into the next world.
There is also an outstanding my space for this page with a great photo gallery that is far more elaborate than the photos found in the text at http://www.myspace.com/riotatthegarden and there is a home page for the publisher at http://www.azwrestlinglegends.com which is where I found the connection to this neat little book.
I would suggest this for any true fan as it proves hardcore matches did NOT begin with ECW! It also deals with some different names and faces for a change, rather than rehashing the same stuff over and over again, like the flood of books out there on the WWE.
I just wish some of the action written about here somehow survived on tv tape, but I doubt it.
