Description:

This is a combination of films shot in Liverpool over a 23 year period starting with clips from the famous Scenes of Liverpool shot in 1897 by Promio of the Lumiere film company. As well as Liverpool Docks from the Overheard Railway, there are shots of the City centre and the Pier Head. There is also pics of a Royal visit, army recruitment, emigration, the 1907 Charter festival and the 3rd World Scout Jamboree in Arrowe Park, then some summer scenes, and then fading out with the first 2 verses of In My Liverpool Home sung by Gerry Jones.

This is a wonderful video, with great nostalgia. What is striking is the huge and dense crowds in almost every shot, even on New Brighton beach! (Has the population really increased since then?) Baden-Powell makes a brief appearance, the ferries chug across the Mersey, people emigrate to Canada. It really is all happening in this little gem. Liverpool's unique charms are successfully captured here. Highly recommended.
