Description:

A unique way to experience Golden Gate Park, a strange way to spend an afternoon. This audio tour of Golden Gate Park begins at Fulton and Stanyan, just at the northeast tip of the park, and proceeds to weave its way down into the park's depths. You will be navigated by your guide down hillsides, through fields, into caves and across ravins while you hear the stories, encounter the creatures and discover the mysteries that haunt our fair park. Where is the feral cat colony? What is in those large green boxes? Who stole the stones from the spanish monastery? Do people really assemble here at night? Why do I feel so unusual? What is that in the bushes? Are coincidences merely chance events? Or is it somehow all connected? Will I ever make it home? And will my home even be there to return to? Though the tour is 80 minutes in length, give yourself a couple hours. It beings at the southwest corner of the intersection of Fulton and Stanyan, at the entrance to Golden Gate Park.

I could not think of a better way to spend a sunny afternoon in the city. The tour is playful, magical, and fun. The narrator mixes wonderful ponderings, imaginative stories, and appropriate backround music and sounds to set the perfect mood for such an adventure. I definately felt like a kid again, and could not wait for what was around the next bend. I highly recommend bringing a friend or a date along to share the joy and laughter. Sometimes people give you wierd looks as you are standing in the middle of the path with a friend, both with headphones on, with huge grins on your faces as you listen and laugh in sinc with each other, but it's worth it. I recommend bringing an ipod if you can get one, as my cd skipped at times, and it is a little scary as it is only one track long and might start skipping halfway through. I hope that there will be a sequel to this tour in another section of the park, although will have no hesitation taking this tour over again soon.
