Carol Ann Culbert Johnson offers her fans 22 short stories of love and romance. The stories deal with issues facing women -- adultery, child abuse, weight, and jealousy. While all of the stories were very good the following touched my heart deeply:
“Desperate Housewives” is the story of three friends. Ada suspects her husband, Donald, of being unfaithful. Fallon admits that she has two men on the side. Maude listens with great sympathy. Ada hires a private detective and discovers Donald’s lover. A gun and anger make for a crime of passion. “Horrible Moments” above all moved me. Child abuse doesn’t end with the act. It carries consequences throughout life. A father abuses a child. As an adult she finds sex repugnant. “Survival” is the tale of a prostitute falling in love with a client. In “Sins of The Preacher” a wife finds out her preacher husband is a hypocrite. “Wedding in Ten Days” is the diary of the bride. “Battered Love” is the story of a battered wife. “Faith” is the beautifully-written story of a woman giving birth and being told her husband is dead.
Carol Ann Culbert Johnson is an extremely talented author. Her latest book “I Confess 2” is a must read for fans of romance. Her short stories are more than romance; they also speak to issues facing women. She tells of the pain of abuse, the fear of losing someone you love, and the anger of finding out the person you love is unfaithful. I truly enjoyed this book. The cover is tastefully done and encourages readers to pick it up and delve inside. The print is a nice size and easy to read. My only criticism is the binding, it isn’t very strong. I believe that readers will enjoy “I Confess 2” and will search the bookshelves for more books by Carol Ann Culbert Johnson.
