On the west coast of the island of Gotland, situated in the middle of the Baltic Sea, one of the most important Viking Port of Trade in Scandinavia has been discovered. Several years of excavation has brought to light a tremendous amount of material, the most important being many thousands of artefacts. All together, some 35.000 objects are registered, giving a detailed information of trade and manufacturing in the Viking Age.
This digital archive contains almost 200 of the best-preserved beads out of a total number of around 500 beads. An introduction text (pdf-file) gives a short review of Vikings and beads, and how beads were made. There is also a short description of Gotland and the Viking Port itself.
The beads are displayed in galleries, readable through a normal web browser. The beads are also available for closer look in the form of high resolution photos (jpg).
