Greatness [ No Rating ] 4 Jun 2007 (updated 4 Jun 2007)
Greatness can be decribed as being something of tremendous worth or value. Voltaire' asserts that "True greatness consists in the use of powerful understanding to enlighten oneself and others". Dr. Foster's work is indeed great in that it provides a unique view of the HIV/AIDS pandemic that will enlighten/educate the uninformed and will endure for generations. Her observations and insightful commentary make this a 'must read' for all members of the black community as well as a clarion call that the time for action is 'NOW". The combination of essays and personal relections gives this work an appeal that even the casual reader will find spellbinding and compelling reading. this is the first "GREAT" book on the subject of AIDS that i have ever read and i anxiously await her next offering. The healing around this sensitive subject has begun with the publication of this epic work and Dr. Foster will in the future be lauded as a true pioneer and visionary for crafting a work that spoke to the hearts and minds of an entire people.it seems as though black folks are always waiting for something.....waiting for something that they wont get if they don't wait! Dr. Foster's masterful work has challenged the black community to stop waiting and inspired us to action.this is the type of work that is truly well conceived and thorough as it relates to including both the facts of the matter and touching the very essence of the HIV/AIDS issue. This book should be required reading in all public health curriculums in the nation as well as every church and faith-based organization.
