Description:Matthew Grey is a young man almost like any other. He enjoys all the things out of life that most men enjoy. Well... all but one thing, that is. You see, Matt is a little different. Matt is what is known as a heterosexual. Yes, in this world of homosexual religious dominance, Matt is the outcast - the forbidden. He is one of the diseases of the world that his father - the Reverend Ronald Grey - and so many like him are trying to "cure." This daring new novel by J. L. Foster - author of the acclaimed "The Estranged Affair: A Love Story" - goes where few others would dare. Taking the modern day prejudices against homosexuals and throwing them in reverse, this controversial tale follows one loving young man on his journey to self-discovery, making his stand as a heterosexual in a world of gay invention. What happens when the minorities are reversed? Take a moment to live the life of a straight man and find out. - Approved for Readers 17 and Older for adult content. Listed in: |

Straight
Straight by J.L. Foster is a romantic alternate universe story where the tables are turned and homosexuality is accepted and heterosexuality is banned.
Matthew Grey’s life has never been an easy one. His father is the leader of the accepted religion where homosexual life style is expounded and the opposite heterosexuality is looked upon as evil. Mat’s problem is that he is straight and in hiding. Mat has never had so much as a date, but his going to the prom is supposed to solve that problem. The most unexpected thing happened when Mat met Amy and they quickly realized that they had more in common than just being straight. Mat and Amy are drawn towards each other, but fate intervened and they are torn apart by Mat’s father, and he is subjected to horrible treatment all in the name of religion.
Two years later, Mat is no better off than he was. He is still hiding his nonconformity from the world, but his feeling have never changed. He never saw Amy again and he always wonders what happened to her. Hidden until now he has avoided any romantic entanglements, but this time his luck has run out. Mat is forced into a date with a guy, but things end very badly, but where one curtain closes another one opens and Mat reunites with his lost love. Will Mat and Amy find a way to be together this time?
Mr. Foster created a fascinating story that twists reality and makes what is considered normal abnormal. It was intriguing to see how things are looked at from another point of view. This may be a love story about two people that won’t give up on their feelings and cave into accepted morality, but it also shows how prejudice can blind people. By making things completely opposite from our world, Mr. Foster allows the reader to see our own behavior with unclouded eyes. It is my hope that others will become more aware of how our behavior can affect others and work towards a truly loving world. Thanks goes to Mr. Foster for a truly inspiring book.

In an alternate dimension in which Gay life is the norm, and heterosexuality is considered unacceptable, there will of course be misfits who don't heed the party line. One such is Matthew, son of a minister, who at seventeen is still virginal. Asked to the prom by a triple-sports team captain, Matthew accedes under pressure from his folks, but is distraught at the idea of the party following the after-prom party and what his date, a player, certainly intends.
At the prom he meets Amy, who also seems to be a misfit although she has a Lesbian date. Caught kissing her outside, the principal notifies his father and Matthew is shipped to a camp to teach him to be gay, lest he fall into heterosexuality and find his soul damned. Years later, Matthew is still single, living outwardly a lifestyle that doesn't fit his spirit, in an America whose new President intends to outlaw opposite-sex marriages. By this point Matthew realises he is straight and there's no way around it, but his refusal to toe the line ends him in a date-rape situation in the ugly projects of Nashville, and then lied about to his friends.
J. L. Foster spins an imaginative tale of a world converse to our own, in which Gay and Lesbian life is the norm-the only acceptable norm-and straights are considered outcasts, or worse. It actually is a repressive society, because multicultural or psychological diversity is forbidden. Only the party line is accepted, and straights don't have civil rights or affirmative action programs. Straight is a most thought-provoking story that examines sociopolitical and cultural issues and will linger in the reader's thoughts.
