Description:

Heron Sea, Short Poems of the Chesapeake Bay, is a startlingly moving look into the heart of the poet and the incomparable beauty of the Chesapeake Bay. Author M. Kei, editor of the critically acclaimed 'Fire Pearls,' issues his first collection of poetry, focussing on the Chesapeake Bay area. Composed while crewing aboard one of the last skipjacks on the bay, and living and working on the Bay's shores, each poem is a loving portrait of life and loss at the Head of the Bay.

I received a copy of 'Heron Sea' yesterday and just wanted to say what a beautiful collection it is. I have never been to the USA, however I feel now, through Kei's striking poetry that I know at least a part of it 'Chesapeake Bay'. There are many poems here that I would add to my favourites list. I particularly liked 'Shaking the bats' p27 and 'Autumn afternoon' p39. I would highly recommend this collection to anyone interested in tanka / haiku or just great poetry in general. For myself I look forward to the rich rewards of spending more time in 'Chesapeake Bay' over the coming days and weeks.

M. Kei's HERON SEA is a beauty from cover to cover. M. Kei's experiences on a restored skipjack are priceless. The tanka poems in this collection glitter like diamonds. The reader is taken back to another time and place and anyone who reads this book can't help but love the Chesapeake Bay. Everyone who works and lives in the Chesapeake Watershed should own a copy.

This is the real deal for poetry of place. Written by a poet and knows and loves all that's real, both good and bad, about the place where he lives. Good poetry of place makes you feel like you've been there, and this does.
