I believe with all my heart that Joyce's book is a must read for anyone beginning their journey to spiritual awakening with its practical and life affirming wisdom.

It's a story of awakening, triumph and apple pie written so anyone can rejoyce in the message. Read it, I guarantee that you'll be glad you did. Thank you Joyce for your gift.

Joyce Shafer's book, “I Don't Want to be Your Guru, but I Have Something to Say,” is absolutely wonderful with simple, but practical life-affirming messages. She reminds me of some of my favorite authors such as Richard Bach and Jane Roberts. The message contained in this special book will remind you of the remarkable person you've always been; and as you remember, you will take the necessary steps to follow the star that has always been shining within you. I really enjoyed the story. I read it through in one sitting and wished that it didn't end. Thank you, Joyce, thank you for sharing this gem with the world.

"I Don't Want to be Your Guru, but I have Something to Say" is Joyce Shafer's gift to me. This book, short and easy-to-read, makes me realize that other books, sharing wisdom that I have read, were merely building up to this book. The book could be read in one afternoon, but why would you want to? I took my time reading this book and intentionally did not mark in it, highlight or flag any part of it. I want to read it again before I really pull the lessons out of the text.

Through an easy going conversation in a cafe, lessons about how we view ourselves and the world around us are shared between two people. Each lesson is one which I want to savor - like a delectable amuses-bouche. An amuses-bouche is bite-sized morsel served before the first course of a meal. And its intent is to tantalize (or amuse) the mouth and indeed tease the diner with what the chef has prepared for the following courses. "I Don't Want to be Your Guru" serves up an array of amuses-bouche - each lesson teasing me with the possibility of how my life could be altered, bettered, lifted by integrating these lessons into it.

In "I Don't Want to be Your Guru," the loose story which surrounds these lessons is a young woman named AJ (though I suppose it could be a man, but as I am a woman I suspect Ms. Shafer intended me to view AJ as a woman) who is returning to the site where she had this life-changing conversation with Old Bill. She is returning ten years after the conversation - and I suspect that of everything she learned in her conversation with this "guru," it could take ten years to really integrate and reflect on these lessons as part of your everyday life. And I, for one, can't wait to get started!

This amazing little book is Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Napoleon Hill and more all rolled into one little treasure. Extraordinarily written and busting at the seems with wisdom. Once you start reading it you'll immediately be glued to every word. I'm a national peak performance expert. I've read over 5000 thousand books on every imaginable topic relevant to life, achievement, psychology and spirituality. I can say that in the current sea of personal development books on the market, few stand out. This one is tops. Buy a copy for yourself and everyone you know, you'll be glad you did.

This One Is Dynamite! Required Reading... [ No Rating ] 8 Apr 2007 (updated 8 Apr 2007)

Dynamite comes in small packages, they say.'I Don’t Want to be Your Guru, But I Have Something to Say'
by Joyce Shafer only has 54 pages, but it contains the punch of a parcel of dynamite!

The really catchy title struck a chord immediately I read it, because there are far too many superstar gurus
around today. When I started reading, I kept thinking: "Yes, good point! I’ll mark this page." Then I’d say the
same thing on the next page, and the next. I soon realized that there is a gem of wisdom on virtually every
page. Many had more than one!

What I really liked about this story is the easy conversational telling. Here we have a really clever use of
fiction to get really important messages across very effectively, devoid of the dogma often attached to books
teaching important life-lessons.

This conversation combines age-old teachings with quantum physics making it an up-to-date manual for life.
Absorbing Old Bill’s philosophy into our own lives is sure to bring greater happiness and joy.

However you use it, you need to read this book. My suggestion: Get it. Read it. Think about it. Blend these
principles into the foundation of your being. Repeat as necessary.

You will find this book to be one of 'the most'
amazing books you've ever read. What Joyce has done
in this masterpiece can only be accomplished through
intuitive, spiritual genius. As you read this
'sure-to-be' classic, you will feel, as I did, the
change that is taking place deep inside. I found
myself taking deep breaths as I soaked and marinated
my soul with this profound yet simple story. Joyce
communicates to you quantum truths in a manner that
anyone can grasp, understand and be transformed by.
I sat and thought of all the friends that I wanted
to call immediately and tell them 'get this book
now'. If you can experience half of what I
experienced while devouring this short book, you
will look at your life, others and the universe in a
way that not only makes perfect sense but with a
sense of purity, optimism, understanding and great
love.'

This book is a little gem. It's short and sweet. It is a wisdom book that compares well with "Tuesdays With Morrie" and even the Carlos Castaneda books, although considerably shorter. It is easy and fun to read and will help everyone who is interested in improving and elevating their life and becoming happier. The information is presented in a conversation between an avatar and someone like you and me who meet in a chance encounter. It is wise, sound, but never preachy. I recommend this book for everyone interested in living a fuller, richer inner life, plus it'll only take you an hour or two of your time to read and digest it.

Like Old Bill says in this book, there's a difference between a trip and a journey. This one is definitely a journey worth taking. I took my time reading this because I wanted to savor the wit and wisdom between the pages. Each bit of knowledge was like a bite out of the warm apple pie that weaves its aroma throughout the book. Whether you rush through or sit around a while, this is one story not to be missed. I'm going back for a second helping.

The wonderful Joyce Shafer tells a powerful story that makes you want to ring your neighbors bell and say, "You must read this!"

You will not be able to put it down. "I Don't Want to be Your Guru, But I Have Something to Say," will touch you on many different levels, make you think, and stay with you for a very long time.

Joyce Shafer is quite capable of doing what Daniel Quinn, Stuart Wilde and even Ken Wilber have not been able to do- reach the masses.
Don't buy one, but two - because it is the perfect gift and (believe me) you will want to keep one for yourself!

Rarely, does a work come along that explains profound concepts in such a simple and memorable way. I read it twice. I wish we could give it to every highschooler as required reading.

I've handled thousands of books. Yet, insights from this book stand out. They grow with you.

This is a delightful and important book. Better get an extra copy, you'll want to share it.

Joyce Shafer is obviously an author to watch.

Joyce Shafer's book "I Don't Want to be Your Guru, But I Have Something to Say," integrates the wisdom of sages, scientists and philosophers with clarity, conciseness and creativity. It was a blessing to read a book which inspired me to experience the bliss of growth and live a life of purpose. It can make every living moment full of meaning, gratitude and joy. Joyce Shafer has the rare gift of distinguishing between the essential and the inessential, when it comes to conveying the truth about purposeful life. I am glad to announce that the book is now part of the Brooklyn Public Library collection.

Right from the moment I read the title, "I don't want to be your guru ..." by Joyce Shafer, this book had my attention -- and I was not disappointed. It's a thought provoking read that essentially translates quantum physics into everyday language and then tucks it all inside a heartwarming story about people reaching out to others and making a difference. This story captivated first my attention, then my interest and finally my heart. Thanks Joyce for giving us a wonderful and very likely accurate description of life and evolution on our planet. I'd recommend it to anyone.

There is a growing number of books and e-books addressing this subject matter, as humanity awakens to its true potential. This book in particular is valuable in
that it purposely covers the material in a format
that will have a sense of familiarity for people, and not feel intimidating.

Ms. Shafer has taken many concepts that are scattered out there at the moment, and woven them into one story, and it's very well-written......very important concepts that should be shared with everyone you know, and particularly teenagers, I would think.

Enjoy!

I've read a lot of books but none as compelling as this one. Call it a parable, an allegory or fairy tale, rarely have the insights and good old fashioned down home homilies and plain Jane talk like I found in I DON'T WANT TO BE YOUR GURU resonated and riveted me at the same time. I have been teaching and writing for a long time, but Shafer distilled and decoded life's mysteries in this gem of truisms like none of us has. I highly recommend it to all who want to connect fast and forever to who we are and how we are all interconnected and interrelated in God’s vast and challenging universe.

Joyce Shafer has created an engaging story filled with consciousness-raising insights that elicit an increased capacity for purposeful living, gratitude, kindness and joy. Like Robert Frost's poem about The Road Not Taken and M. Scott Peck's book, The Road Less Traveled, this story shows us the transcendent difference between merely traveling through vs being on a life journey.

Joyce Shafer's book was a melange of mystery, fable, mysticism and metaphysics interwoven into one easy to read book. I 'devoured' it and found myself enthralled in the story and I simply couldn't put it down! I felt as if she was directly speaking to me; and I was her student willing to learn.

As she touched universal topics, I found myself thinking and thinking...and...thinking....

This is a book that I will recommend to everyone.
