An intense exploration of a life of extreme acts and the complexity of human relationships in the book Day of Rest leads the reader through the life of Banksie, a character plagued by tragedy and yet somehow hope. Ian Claridge takes us on a quick paced adventure through the world of drugs, violence and ultimately redemption.

As each page tells more of Banksie's life, I couldn't help but be suprised by all of the details found in the book. And after finishing the book, I found myself not only wanting more of the story, but I also know I want to reread it again so as to catch all of the action.

This book is worth the purchase, you won't be disappointed. It delivers a punch of things unexpected, written in a very strong voice.

Congratulations on a fine book, Mr. Claridge.

I can say with certainty that Day of Rest has put Ian Claridge into my very exclusive list of favorite authors. We almost went without dinner because I couldn’t put the book down.

The storyline is quick and powerful. Around every corner there is a twist that you just didn’t see coming. And by the time you have digested it, another one appears.

The main character comes alive and draws you into his past and his pain. On the one hand, you know you should be disgusted with his heinous acts; on the other hand, you understand him and feel as if you have walked through his pain and can’t seem to find it in yourself to be angry with him. I can’t anyway.

Mr. Claridge has an excellent grasp on the “show, don’t tell” aspect of writing; he provides detailed imagery and deep character definition without the distraction of unnecessary words and rambling information dumps. You’ll find none of that here; every word is relevant.

It was a great read and I will be impatiently waiting for the sequel to come out!
