The study of EIL does not cover a single area but it is rather a composite discipline covering the issues of the global spread of English; the impact of native English(es) on local cultures and languages, and the impact of local cultures and languages on native English(es); phonological, lexical, grammatical and discoursal variations in English(es); the perceptions of these variations; intelligibility; corpus studies; bilingualism, multilingualism; language standards; and teaching issues.
