Description:THE WAY OF EVOLUTION combines nine substantial essays with an aphoristic appendix as it strives to delineate evolutionary trends and to uphold the desirability of transcendental artificiality in the face of naturalistic traditions. Subjects range from gender and class to literature and music, as well as an interesting variant on the 'philosophy of history' as propounded by the likes of Oswald Spengler, Simone Weil, and Malcolm Muggeridge. Although a comparatively early project in John O'Loughlin's literary oeuvre, this volume of essays takes its cue from the desirabiity of transcendentalism from the standpoint of evolutionary progress and advances its cause through several fairly lengthy essays, the best of which far outshine those published in the author's previous collection of essays entitled 'The Fall of Love'.
