Ernest Hemingway once made a wager that he could write a complete story in only six words. “For sale: baby shoes, never worn” won him $10 back in the 1920’s but sparked a minor internet phenomenon in 2006. Hemingway understood the power of a good story, his distinctive writing style capturing and exciting the imagination. Jump ahead to November of 2006 where WIRED magazine asked well-known science fiction authors and screenwriters to take a shot themselves. Even without a wager of $10 at stake, these individuals crafted stories that are as thought provoking as they are concise. Created for the 2007 Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design Senior Exhibition, I have illustrated a selection of these stories and compiled them into a picture book.
