Description:

David’s story begins on March 11, 1989 when he has a massive heart attack. He tells of his nearly fatal episode of heart arrhythmia and the stress of having an implantable defibrillator in his abdomen for twenty months. He struggles to accept that his chance for a miracle transplant can only occur when another person dies. David receives a new heart in 1991 at the age of 46 and he tells how it has affected him and his family. “Mr. NewHeart” continues through the following years of blessing and challenge. David’s story is one of faith in God, courage, endurance, victory, and miracles.

Mr. NewHeart is an amazing story of a journey no person could dream possible. David Hollar, and his wife Sylvia, had just embarked on a new phase of their lives together, having sent their son off to college and having just moved into their new dream home. The series of events, medical emergencies and miracles over the next four years would prove to be life-changing for not only Dave and Sylvia, but for their family, friends, and co-workers. Dave’s portrayal of his inter-actions with his doctors and nurses, the medical procedures he experienced, his recollection of his thoughts and uncertainties of his experiences, are captivating. His story, as told through Mr. NewHeart, is together fascinating and spellbinding. When you begin reading, you will not be able to put the book down. The final two chapters of the book were written by Sylvia, and their son Michael. Both provide insight into the journey of a lifetime - in four years. Mr. NewHeart is a “must read” for anyone looking to find inspiration within turmoil and challenges.

David’s story of how he and his family walked through what appeared to be overwhelming medical challenges is truly an inspiration. He recalls frank and honest details in sharing the low moments of despair alongside the triumph of a miracle transplant in the end. The story shows how his faith in God is an integral part of his daily journey.

Once I started reading Mr. NewHeart, I couldn’t put it down until it was finished. I can understand why it brought you to tears as you were writing it. As you related in detail the emotional and physical toll this devastating illness had on you and Sylvia, it brought back many of my own memories of your difficult times. This is indeed your testimony of how God was with you through your deepest despair to the new life you received on that glorious Easter morning. You are indeed the Six Million Dollar Man and also our Walking Miracle.

"An inspiring first hand account of the emotional roller coaster Dave's family rode, during his long and emphatic struggle to sustain life. A point of faith and hope for all who read this book."
