It now takes its place beside the Missa Cambrensis (Welsh Mass) the Missa Brevis and the Requiem. The idiom is essentially lyrical, with occasional blue and even sour notes to be heard. The Credo attempts to be a Credo of ‘all the Faiths’ in that the imitative dislocations undermine somewhat the tradition interpretation of this text. Otherwise this is a more or less traditional setting, albeit with a background of quiet menace reflecting the troubled circumstances of its composition. Listed in: |
