As a classroom teacher I found this book amazingly helpful. It gave me insights on issues I have been grappling with for years, and I have recommended it to colleagues, as well as to parents of boys I know who are finding bringing up lads a challenge.
This is an excellent book which gave me insightful ideas on how to bring out the best in boys. Clear examples that show the author has had real experience of being around boys. Useful tips on being positive in your interactions with boys and acknowledgment of the challenges that may exist. I particularly loved the chapter on giving boys an emotional vocabulary. Have used some of the techniques already with great success. I strongly recommend this book. It's an essential read for any one who works or lives with boys.
As the father of three young men aged 21, 23 & 25 I read the book with interest and, I hope, a little insight. Whilst as a cop with 28 years’ service I have dealt with young men regularly as both victims and "customers". Lucinda has demonstrated a real understanding of how to get the best out boys and young men, and just as importantly how to communicate effective strategies to parents and carers. Testosterone can be a challenging ingredient in any household and this book gives us all a hope of turning boisterous boys into confident young men to be proud of. What's more they can be real friends along the journey.
Very digestable and well read. Applicable to all, whether male or female, who interact and communicate with boys. How to get a better life! ...and give them one.
