From the first chapter, the reader is drawn into the story and remains captivated until the very end. Author Mike Aragona expertly sets up the minutiae of the day's events and while everything seems happy and perfect on the surface, the reader knows there are more sinister things to come. The development of the characters is very well done as is the description of how they are all linked in one way or another. Detective Anderson is particularly interesting and hopefully this is the first of many books to come featuring this character. There are a variety of underlying themes such as love, vengeance, parapsychology and life after death but perhaps most noticeable is the message that we are all masters of our own destiny. A fascinating and uplifting story with a few twists and turns thrown in for good measure.

“The Anti-Bodies” is a highly entertaining piece of fiction that, on the surface reads like a supernatural thriller, but is much more. Novelist Mike Aragona is able to touch upon themes and genre conventions with such writing virtuosity that when he abruptly changes gears (from chapter to chapter), it never seems jarring. There are plenty of things going on in “Heaven can wait”, reflections on human morality, love, family, loyalty, spirituality, retribution, to name but a few. It’s all done without a heavy hand though and can be read as a simple piece of entertainment, but for those willing to look closer, it’s so much more.
